Today was the first day I actually started to docent! Sierra and I chose to learn and present about the Ribosome Machine and it was actually really interesting. I learned that ribosomes are located inside your nucleus and they are what create protein, which your cells need to survive. Doctors are targeting ribosomes to prevent certain diseases. There are many parts of your body that create ribosomes and these parts are listed on the machine. Personally, I feel like they could have put less writing on the machine, or at lease spread it out, because a machine covered in writing that is in complex language may look intimidating to younger children (or even adults) visiting the museum. I think people's favorite part of the museum is the slide shows located on the machine that show how ribosomes create protein and how doctors are targeting ribosomes to prevent certain diseases. Sierra and I presented to a couple third graders and some down syndrome high schoolers who were visiting the museum. I loved finally being able to docent, especially on something that I have interest in. I think next time maybe we arrive at 9:30 because most schools don't visit that early in the morning.

Today we arrived at the HMNS and sat around the body system exhibit for some time as we waited to be told what to do. I think that maybe we should arrive later in the day because no one really comes that early in the morning. Then Sierra and I went to the Ribosome exhibit and we waited to present it to people but no one really comes to it. I think it is a little intimidating because there is so much information on it. I feel like it would be cooler if the tunnel was longer and surrounded all of the walls surrounding the machine. Then the information could be spread around inside the tunnel. That may make it more interesting. After two hours of standing there, we moved and sat on the couches in the Social Media section. I learned a few things from a video that was playing on loop. We got picked up at 11:30 and went back to POHS.

Today was my first day trying out the Friday time slot! When I first came in and went upstairs to find Mary, there were hardly any people in the museum. Mary told me she was going to try to get me an educator for the ribosome machine but unfortunately the educator was out that day. Instead, I was introduced to all of the members of the museum and even got to see the new ribosome table. This is an interactive table that I think is very confusing but it is going to replace the ribosome machine soon. Another Mary then gave me a few extra facts on the Ribosome Machine and then I stood around for about 45 minutes. I think the problem is that I personally do not like being toured by a guide, therefore I do not love being a docent. I also feel like I don't really know enough about ribosomes and I don't want to say false information. Oh, I also saw a receptionist watching videos of people straining pasta in a toilet. That was pretty much the most entertaining thing that happened that internship dya. When I got picked up, Dr. Lee told me that I should stick with my internship until the end of the semester and then I can try something new. I am thinking about maybe interning at the Med Center.

Today I arrived at the Health Museum and immediately went upstairs to check in with Mary. She told me that I did not have to meet with her so I just rode the elevator back down to the Ribosome Exhibit. I found that they had put the ribosome table out so I played with that for a while because there were not many people at the museum. I finally understand it so I will be able to explain it to the museum visitors. No one came to the ribosome exhibit so I just read the whole thing a bunch of times so I could try to learn something new. A couple days after my visit, I learned that Dr. Lee got me a new internship at the Bettini Lab and I am super excited (but nervous) to start. I will have my interview on December 5th. I will end my internship at the HMNS when this semester is over.
